Congratulations Dr. Satish Jain(R-107,1964) For Life Achievement Award

Dr Satish Jain IR-107) joined the Punjab Public School, Nabha, in 1964 for his initial education as a Government of India Merit Scholar. He signed the “Honour Book’ for academic achievements, year after year. Besides academic brilliance, he is still remembered as a passionate actor for his emotional role in the school’s play ‘GODAN in 1970. He won laurels for the school by his success in several inter-school debates and us the leading drummer of the school band in the Republic Day parades in New Delhi in 1969 and 1970. He was one of the joint toppers of the 1970 batch in the ISCE examination and was the school’s Best Drummer and the Best Debater (Hindi)

He was placed on the merit list of the Punjab University in Pre-Medical examination. His academic brilliance enabled him to earn his MBBS and MD (Medicine) with merit scholarships and several distinctions and medals

He married Dr. Menka S Jain in 1977 who was his batch-mate during MBBS, having met her during the rehearsals of several plays that they acted in together. She is a Gynecologist and retired from the Indian Railways. He has 2 children, the elder daughter Varupi is now an Associate Director of BioSci Careers in Stanford University. The younger son Deepit is a passionate Musician and a Sound Engineer who now runs the Delhi Sound Store, one of the biggest music stores in India. He has 3 grand-children-Pareena (16), Taruvar (13) and Deetya (8)

He joined DM (Neurology) in 1982 at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi where after obtaining his DIM he was offered a faculty position. He was a Fulbright Scholar and was awarded the WG Lennox International Clinical Fellowship in Epilepsy Research and worked at Duke University Medical Centre, NC, USA, Despite in having attractive offers in the USA, he chose to come back and work in in India India and and soon rose to become a Professor in Neurology at the AIIMS, New Delhi

He was conferred the Young Scientist Millennium Award-2000 for Biological Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences, India in recognition of his outstanding contribution towards advancing the cause of epilepsy in society, he was presented the Ambassador for Epilepsy Award ‘by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) in 2001. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow) for his seminal contributions to the field of epilepsy and neurology He has been President of the Indian Epilepsy Society and the President of Indian Epilepsy Association,

Prof Satish Jain is an a globally acclaimed Neurologist and epileptologist, internationally recognized teacher and a researcher. He has published 185 research articles in national and international scientific journals and contributed chapters in 65 books. He represented Asia as a a Member of the International Task Force responsible for the new classification of Human Epilepsies, which was released in 2017. Dr. Satish lain was appointed a as Advisor to Health Care. Human Services and Family Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim As a unique honour, he was accorded a Human Cabinet Status by the Sikkim Government

What he has achieved, is and will continue to be viewed as a gold standard for what can be accomplished with sheer hard work, determination and dedication even in emerging economies like India. For achieving exceptional distinction in life and doing the Neurology and Epilepsy fraternity proud this Lifetime Achievement Award for the year 2024 is being conferred upon Dr. Satish Jain
