Mr. J.K. Kate Awarded Padam Shri

 

Our founder Headmaster’s pivotal role in the establishment of this grand institution of PPS was aptly recognized by the Government of India when in the early 1970s, he was conferred the honour of Padma Shri, on the eve of the Republic Day.

Picture shows Mr Kate at his farewell Party hosted by staff in 1972. Facing him is Mr IB Kakkar, sitting next to him is Mrs Kakkar and Mr RC Bhalla.

 

The news of the prestigious honour was announced officially to PPS students at the time of Assembly, which was being conducted by the Headmaster.

 

After a thunderous applause, PPS students not to let an opportunity go waste, collectively shouted HOLIDAY! HOLIDAY!!

 

For the first time, we saw the authoritative Mr. Kate wilt with child-like embarrassment and probably gesticulated his inability to take a decision. 

Well, it was left to Mr. Y.P. Johri (our Senior Master) to announce “YES!”

Close Encounter

The picture shows Mr JK Kate the Founder Headmaster having close encounter with the President VV Giri. On the right is a famous actress Waheeda Rehman w/o actor late Kamaljeet Sngh, who won the award same year.

Mr Kate would joke with his family, “here I am with the President and Waheeda Rehman on same sofa and look who the President is talking to”.
